Our Story
A Franco-English Home
Maison Barton was founded by Romy and Hugo, a Franco-English couple who spent many years in England before resettling in France.
The brand is the product of two countries, two sensibilities, and one shared love of a well-made home. Quiet British tradition brought into the French interior, and made, sourced and finished here in France.
The name itself reflects this blend. Maison is the French word for home. Barton comes from the Old English bere-tūn, the yard or outbuildings of a farmstead. The word survives today chiefly in the West Country, where Romy and Hugo spent several years beneath thatched roofs and along the hedgerows of the Devon countryside. Maison Barton is a romantic nod to those years: the warmth of a French home, remembered through the fields and farmhouses of rural England.
We set out to bring a considered, traditional British aesthetic to the French market. Restrained, well-proportioned pieces drawn from the English tradition, and designed to last not years but generations. Every product is sourced and made in France, using French materials and French hands. It is, in the simplest sense, the English kitchen, made in France.
